Philippi Beautification Project
Philippi Beautification Project (100 Days to go)
Philippi Stadium is one of the two venue-specific Training Sites in the Western Cape. To celebrate 100 days to go, the Provincial Government of the Western Cape decided to beautify the facility and involve the community in the area. Together with Abalimi BezeKhaya (Gardeners of the Home), 100 trees were planted commemorating the number of days before the kick-off of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa.
Abalimi BezeKhaya is an urban agriculture and environmental action association operating in the socio-economically neglected townships of Khayelitsha, Nyanga and surrounding areas on the Cape Flats near Cape Town, South Africa. They assist individuals, groups and community based organisations to initiate and maintain permanent organic food growing and nature conservation projects as the basis for sustainable lifestyles, self-help job creation, poverty alleviation and environmental renewal.
At the end of the day, each gardener was presented with a garden kit for the community project that they represented in order to further encourage Abalimi’s strategic objectives.
