Football Fridays

At the end of last year President Jacob Zuma welcomed end endorsed the launch of the Football Friday campaign (originally initiated by the CEO of the Sun International Hotel Group) which aims to spread World Cup Fever amongst South Africans.  The campaign encourages South Africans to wear their football jerseys every Friday for the weeks leading up to the World Cup.

The Premier of the Western Cape, Helen Zille launched Football Fridays locally at the Philippi Stadium in Philippi, Cape Town on Friday 30^th October 2009, marking 30 Fridays before kick-off of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa.

The Provincial Government of the Western Cape hosted a 5-a-side football tournament between the contractors and the construction workers and a special exhibition match between the winners of the tournament and the 2010 football ambassadors at the stadium.
