Fan Fest: Street Soccer
Cape Town FIFA Fan Fest: Street Soccer
With the start of the FIFA World Cup less than two weeks away, be part of this monumental event by entering a team into the 5-a-side street soccer tournaments at the Official Cape Town FIFA Fan Fest.
Darling Street will be completely closed off to create space for the street soccer pitches, which will be completely boarded in to create a suitable 5-a-side soccer environment. A spectator area will also be created for friends, family and children waiting to play.
All local Soccer Federations have been invited to participate in the Youth Tournaments and NGOs have been approached regarding an NGO Soccer4Development tournament day.
The youth tournament will take place from June 12 to June 16 and each team that enters will receive reserved seating in the Grand Stands inside the Grand Parade, from where they can enjoy the live World Cup matches on the 74-sq m screen.
The youth event has been structured to have sixteen teams per age group, under 9, under 11, under 13, under 15 and under 17, giving local soccer enthusiasts the opportunity to show their skills to fans from across the globe. All teams will compete in a round-robin style tournament and games will take place daily from 11h30 to 18h00 for the first week of the World Cup.
In addition to the youth tournament Cape Town businesses in the CBD have been invited to participate in the Inter-Company Challenge on Football Friday 18 June from 12h00 to 19h30. The winning business will be crowned the Fan Fest Champions.
All Teams will be ably assisted by a venue soccer manager, two volunteers and referees from participating clubs.
The pitches will be officially opened on June 11 with celebrity matches between teams consisting of ex-players from PSL teams Ajax, Santos and Vasco as well as local Cape Town celebrities.
Entries will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis and all players under the age of fourteen will need to be supervised by an adult.
